Technical Art Assistant and Asset Manager

Visionary Realms is looking for an Technical Art Assistant and Asset Manager with a passion for building worlds. The ideal candidate will be able to understand the technical requirements from the programming team and be able to confirm that art assets produced by the art team are adhering to standards agreed upon by both the art and programming teams. This candidate would also be capable of producing new technical art assets as requested by the creative teams. The Asset Manager reports to the Chief Technical Officer. There is a strong preference for candidates located in the San Diego, California region, however we will consider exceptional non-local applications as well. This is a full-time contracted position. Priority consideration will be given to those with 2+ years of experience, having shipped at least one title.


  • Auditing of new art assets as they arrive from artist (testing naming, hierarchy, modeling, texture conventions etc.)
  • Mediating between lead programmer, technical artist, and 3D artists / animators
  • Handling interactions and approvals on outsourced assets
  • Bringing new assets into the project post auditing
  • Setting up model prefabs for use by world builders
  • Creating technical art assets for new systems
  • Creating incidental art assets (grass and other ambient flora)
  • Creating intermediate PBR art assets (3D environmental props)
  • Requirements

    • Extensive experience with Unity3D, prefabs, and asset management in general
    • Good understanding of Unity3D’s asset bundle pipeline
    • Ability to create high quality PBR game assets
    • Solid understanding of core game features:
      • Modeling
      • Rigging
      • Animation
      • Shaders
      • Texture formats / atlasing / budgets
      • Polygon budgets
      • LOD creation
      • Scene optimization
    • Good working knowledge of primary game development tools:
      • Photoshop / Substance Designer / Other PBR texturing tools
      • Maya / 3DSMax / Blender
      • Quixel Megascans
      • ZBrush
      • 3D Coat
      • Understanding of Unity animation systems (Mecanim, Playables, Avatar setup)
      • Good working knowledge of particle systems
      • Scripting knowledge (Maya MEL scripts and C#)
